Originally built in 1704 and expanded in the 1840s, this three-storey Queen Anne house sleeps 24 in 12 bedrooms, and guests have access to the celebrated and extensive gardens. Jane Austen was a frequent visitor to Goodnestone as her brother Edward married Elizabeth, whose father Sir Brook Bridges owned the estate. Jane began writing Pride and Prejudice after spending a few weeks visiting Edward, inspired by her experience of country house society.
The house can be rented on a self-catering basis or the on-site house manager will assist with arranging everything from picnics to fine dining. Weddings and civil ceremonies can take place within the house or nearby garden room, or in Goodnestone Church from where the wedding party can walk into the gardens to their reception.
