Founded in 1887 by its founder Dr William Laidlaw Purves as a rival to St Andrew’s, St George’s in Sandwich is consistently ranked amongst the leading courses in the world. Golf World's Top 100 for X Factor in 2024 says, 'Sandwich has it all: history, pedigree and, above all, a fabulously entertaining course.'
With its famously challenging 18-holes set in 450 acres of dune land, Royal St George's Golf Club is one of Britain's finest links golf courses. Players can enjoy beautiful surroundings and stunning sea views.
The club occupies a unique place in the history of golf, for it was here in 1894, that the Open Championship was first played outside Scotland. St George’s has now hosted The Open 15 times (more than any other course outside Scotland), most recently The 149th Open in July 2021.
The course also proudly hosts other numerous tournaments for both amateur and professional golfers from across the world.
